Mater Hospital Brisbane (MHB) is a not-for-profit hospital formed by the Sisters of Mercy out of a private house called Aubigny on January 4, 1906. From its humble beginnings of 20 patients and 141 patients at the end of 1906, Mater expanded into Mater Hospital Brisbane (1911), Mater Children’s Hospital (1931), the Neurological Department (1954), Mater Private Hospital (2000), and Mater Private Hospital Springfield (2015). Visiting hours are from 11 am to 1 pm, and 3 pm to 8 pm, seven days a week.

Mater Hospital Brisbane, one of the hospitals of Mater Health Services, is in Raymond Terrace, QLD 4101, North Quay. It lies near the city centre, south-west of the airport, and north of Griffith University. Mater Health Services specialises in cancer treatment, ear, nose and throat (EENT), cardiology, gynaecology (women’s health), palliative care (medical care for life-limiting illnesses), gastroenterology (digestive medicine), neurology, nephrology, plastic dermatology, orthopaedics (musculoskeletal system), ophthalmology (eye treatment), and urology (urine).
Mater Health Services also runs an education and teaching centre for students and professionals who continue their training.
