Crown Bet Darwin Triple Crown Supercars
Australians love their racing circuits. If you’re into supercars and racing, you would want to visit Darwin as it holds the annual Crown Bet Darwin Triple Crown Supercars tourney in June this year. Tracing its origins back to the year 1960, the Crown Bet Champion, known then as the Australian Touring Car Championship, had been decided in a single race up until 1968. The following year, however, saw the tournament branch out into a series of races held across the country, which went on until this day.
Crowd Report on the Ground
Crown Bet still elicits the same excitement and unbridled appreciation as it did decades ago. Coincidentally, 2017’s Crown Bet, the tourney’s 20th anniversary, introduced the Stadium Super Trucks before the actual races. It was a crowd pleaser at the Hidden Valley Raceway. Performers like Hilltop Hoods, Illy, Russell Morris and Hot Dub Time Machine delivered live entertainment.
You can bet that 2018’s Crown Bet won’t be any different. Expect hordes of people from around the world, locals, as well as spectators from other parts of Australia, to be in attendance. With the aggressive social media campaign and impressive tour packages thrown in for good measure, people are stoked about the big event.
From the venue down to its periphery, crowds will definitely form as this year’s event offers the usual dose of Crown Bet side spectacles like the Race and Rock live concerts. A variety of food and refreshment kiosks will also be available. There’s no shortage of activity to keep you excited wherever you go.
Plan Ahead
The only way to avoid anxiety on Championship day(s) is to plan ahead. Travelers coming from other countries and Australians pouring in from different parts of the country are advised to buy tickets early, book accommodations a month or so ahead, and plan carefully on how to get to the Hidden Valley Raceway.
Likewise, anticipate the shortage of available parking spaces near the main venue, given the large crowd expected. There’s a provision for 7000 cars at Hidden Valley and parking is free. Motorbikes, on the other hand, can be parked in a separate and secured area at Gate 1. Disability parking is also available.
Parking at the event, however, is at your own risk. For practicality, opt to park in Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory. Parking rates in the city range from $1.50 an hour ($7.50 max daily charge) to $2.30 an hour, depending on the zone. The multi-storey West Lane carpark offers spots at $2 an hour and $10.50 for overnight stay (Monday to Wednesday only). The Chinatown carpark charges $1.50 an hour and $9 for overnight parking, Sunday to Thursday. Off-street parking is also available with a different set of parking fees and rules.
From Darwin, you can opt to travel by free public transport to and from the event. You can also access the Darwin bus network or hire a taxi if you want to avoid the rush.
The Parkhound Way
With all the excitement happening, parking should be the least of your concerns. Parkhound offers you an alternative to hourly parking fees. Day rates start at $17 and monthly-based parking spots are available ranging from $171.45 to $207.
Comparing it to the hourly rates and limited availability of Darwin carparks on certain dates, Parkhound still takes the cake. Book now before the big event.
