Parking Spring Hill
Located 2 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD, Spring Hill is one of the oldest suburbs in Brisbane, with residential homes that date back to the 19th century. In the 1850s, plots of land went up for sale, which were quite popular because they were located on Wickham Terrace and Leichardt Street, areas that ascended a ridge. The more wealthier settlers would build their homes on these ridges so they could experience the cooling winds and river views. The suburb was named Spring Hill because the hill on which it was built actually contained the city’s fresh water supply. Reservoirs were built in Spring Hill because the height made it easy for water to be distributed throughout Brisbane. There are a great many cafes and restaurants that are located around the main roads including Jak and Hill cafe, which has a delicious selection of pastries, from chocolate brownies to citrusy almond cake. Soften your sweet treats with some tea and you’ll be feeling warm and fuzzy for the rest of the day. If you’re into fitness and parkour, you can try out the Parkour park near Gregory Terrace in Spring Hill. It is Brisbane’s first parkour park and it’s made from concrete and steel, perfect for jumping on and off, vaulting, running, climbing and rolling. If you’re not comfortable with the more advanced movements, you can always start off with running and jumping off the smaller obstacles.
